Fred Kavli Theatre Rules

To ensure the safety of all patrons and guests, Fred Kavli Theatre has created the following code of conduct and policy guidelines. Please review and follow the rules and policies below as failure to abide by them may result in expulsion from the venue without refund.

If you have any questions, please contact the box office at 805-449-2787.

Accessibility Policy

Fred Kavli Theatre offers ADA-compliant accommodations for guests and patrons in need. These include accessible seating on all levels of the theatre as well as accessible restrooms. The theatre is also fully accessible with appropriate accommodations made for wheelchairs and persons with disabilities.

Infrared headsets which amplify the sound are available at no cost to the hearing impaired. Individuals wishing to obtain a headset may contact an usher upon entering the lobby area.

If you have any specific accommodation questions or needs, please call the venue at 805-449-2787 at least two weeks before your ticketed event.

Arrival Policy

Showtimes start promptly at the time listed on your ticket. If a guest arrives late, they may be asked to wait in the lobby until an appropriate break period or during intermission. For certain shows, there may be no intermission period. To avoid frustration, please make sure you arrive no later than 30 minutes before the shows ticketed start time.

Latecomers

Latecomers may be allowed, at the discretion of the house staff. It’s likely you’ll have to wait for an appropriate moment in the event before you’re seated. The venue asks patrons to arrive on time to minimize disruptions to performers and fellow audience members.

Leaving during a performance

If you choose to leave during a performance, you won’t be readmitted until an appropriate moment, or at intermission. Timing is at the discretion of the house staff.

Bag Policy

Bringing a bag? Keep it small. Anything larger than 14” x 6” x 14” (think backpacks, large totes, or bulky luggage) won’t make it past security.

  • » Small clutch purses and wallets – good to go.
  • » Larger bags, backpacks, and oversized items – expect a security check.
  • » Non-essential items? Best left at home or locked in your car.

The venue reserves the right to confiscate any item that could pose a risk, disrupt the event, or go against venue policies.

Declining a security check? That typically means no entry.

Camera Policy

Cameras are not allowed in the theatre without prior written consent. If a specific show or event allows cameras, then it will be detailed in the event or program guide.

Cancellation Policy

If an event is canceled due to inclement weather or artist cancellation, then ticket holders will be informed as soon as possible through media and the website. Please contact the venue at 805-449-2787  to ask about refunds or postponements.

Children Policy

Children are welcome at most events, however, every patron must have a ticket regardless of age or seating requirements. As a courtesy to other guests, patrons are asked to bear in mind that it is not appropriate for small children to attend events where silence is necessary to fully enjoy the performance. In all cases, infants in arms are not permitted.

Note: For performances suitable for children like Paw Patrol, strollers, baby carriers, car seats, and/or booster seats aren’t allowed in the theatre.

Dress Code Policy

There is no official dress code, but the staff suggests “comfortable casual”. Since the types of shows vary greatly, you’ll see all types of attire — from elegant cocktail attire to business casual to very casual. Audiences for Symphony and Broadway shows tend to be more formal than rock, pop, and country-western concertgoers, who are often seen in jeans and t-shirts.

Food and Beverage Policy

Outside food and beverages are not allowed within Fred Kavli Theatre. You can purchase refreshments from the concessions stand before the show or during intermissions.

Cell phones and electronics

The use of cell phones isn’t permitted. This rule is in place as a courtesy to both patrons and performers. Have a smartwatch? You’ll be asked to disconnect wearable devices before the show starts.

Cameras and video recorders

Photography and audio/video recording are prohibited at all performances. This includes the use of smartphones and other handheld devices. Breaking this rule could end in eviction from the theatre.

First aid

Contact an usher if there’s a medical emergency and you need first aid.

Lost and Found

Lost something at a show or event? Please contact event staff or security for help with finding the lost and found office. After the show, Lost and Found articles inside the theatres may be claimed by calling (805) 449-2744.

Fred Kavli Theatre does not claim responsibility for lost or missing items.

Listening devices for hearing-impaired patrons

Infrared headsets to amplify sound are available at no cost to the hearing impaired. Just ask an usher when you enter the lobby to request a headset.

Restrooms

Smoking

The Fred Kavli Theatre is smoke-free, vape-free, and tobacco-free. No exceptions. That means cigarettes, cigars, e-cigs, vapes, and smokeless tobacco stay outside.

Smoking Policy

For the comfort and enjoyment of patrons, the Theatres at the Thousand Oaks Bank of America Performing Arts Center are designated as a smoke-and tobacco-free environment. Smoking and the use of all tobacco products, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e.g., “e-cigarettes”) are prohibited anywhere within the interior of the Fred Kavli Theatre and Janet & Ray Scherr Forum. Smoking is permitted at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center in designated outdoor areas.

Dress code

No strict dress code here – comfort is key. Fred Kavli welcomes everything from cocktail dresses to concert tees.

Symphony and Broadway nights? Expect a more polished crowd. Think business casual, evening wear, or something that feels a little extra special.

Rock, pop, country shows, and tribute acts? Jeans, boots, and band shirts fit right in.

The bottom line – wear what makes you feel good. The venue suggests “comfortable casual” and that can be interpreted however you like. The only rule is to come ready for a great show.
