The Book Of Mormon

Those looking for something fresh and modern in California now have another reason to be excited, as The Book of Mormon will be having a limited season in Thousand Oaks, available at Fred Kavli Theatre At Bank Of America Performing Arts Center on Sunday 9th February 2025. Witness top-level comedy from watching the production of the same creators of South Park and the musical Avenue Q.

The Book of Mormon is a show about religious conversion, specifically of the assignment given to Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham, who through clever methods, strive to convert villagers of a local village in Uganda. This Tony Award-winning musical, that has gone on to have successful stagings in the U.S., London, and Australia, running for more than a decade to date, unmasks the way religious stories are told, with comedy through classical theatre and showtunes.

Get your seats now and don't miss yet another full house showing of The Book of Mormon as it comes to Thousand Oaks!

Kevin Price and Arnold Cunningham are two coming of age Mormon missionaries tasked with a mission to a local Ugandan village. Their mission is to convert the locals to their faith, but they find out upon their arrival that their job is more difficult than they had assumed, given the great deal of local issues that the villagers are against such as oppression, an HIV/AIDS epidemic, and poverty among others. The pair then come to accept that they must utilize more unique methods to succeed in their mission than the usual method that they know.

It is in the pair’s difficult journey where the performance of The Book of Mormon shines – allowing a serious topic of religion to be blasphemed and made fun of with comedy, showtunes, and a bit of rude language, yet still remaining unobjectionable to theatre fans. Since its debut in 2011, the The Book of Mormon has been received positively despite its manner of conveying its message. The Mormon church itself supported the musical, buying ads and releasing slogans specifically that stated: “You’ve seen the play, now read the book.” In its West End performances, the repeatedly sold-out shows were a testament to The Book of Mormon’s success. Though most viewers were already eagerly curious given the content and theme of the play, according to The Guardian, it was even to their shock that “suddenly you realize you’re in for not just humour but a seriously fine night of entertainment, and it just keeps on getting better.” The musical’s run in Australia just as successful, with the Sydney Morning Herald even reviewing that the Book of Mormon is a “dynamite production of a show that has consistently been called the funniest Broadway musical of all time.”

It's no shock that due to its success, The Book of Mormon’s several shows all over the world have earned it nine Tony Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Circle Critics awards, four Olivier Awards, and two Helpmann Awards.

This upbeat, happy, and totally hilarious show continues its tour in California. Thousand Oaks’s premier theatre venue, Fred Kavli Theatre At Bank Of America Performing Arts Center, with its spacious seating capacity, magnificent lighting, and superb sound system will be hosting this February’s performance of The Book of Mormon.
